Estidama – Sustainabilty

Estidama, which is the Arabic word for “SUSTAINABILITY”, is the intellectual legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and a manifestation of visionary governance promoting thoughtful and responsible development. It is an initiative developed and promoted by the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) which aimed to define how contemporary, sustainable Arab Capital should look and how it could live.

The ultimate goal of Estidama is to preserve and enrich Abu Dhabi's physical and cultural identity, while creating an always improving quality of life for its residents on four equal pillars of sustainability: environmental, economic, social, and cultural.

Estidama arose from the need to properly plan, design, construct and operate sustainable developments with respect to the traditions embedded within the rich local culture on one hand and the harsh climatic nature of the region on the other.


LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a Green Building Rating System developed by the U.S Green Building Council (USGBC). It is introduced in the market in a large number of countries to change the way of thinking about how buildings and communities are planned, constructed, maintained and operated.

LEED certification provides independent verification of a building or neighborhood’s green features, allowing for the design, construction, operations and maintenance of resource-efficient, high-performing, healthy, cost-effective buildings. LEED certification means healthier, more productive places, reduced stress on the environment by encouraging energy and resource-efficient buildings, and savings from increased building value, higher lease rates and decreased utility costs.

Environmental Monitoring & Testing

Environmental monitoring is gathering, assessing and reporting environmental information obtained through continuous or periodic sampling, observation and analysis of both natural variation or changes and anthropogenic pressures and their effects on humans and the environment. Environmental Monitoring and Assessment discusses technical developments and data arising from environmental monitoring and assessment, principles in the design of monitoring systems, and the use of monitoring data in assessing the consequences of natural resource management and pollution risks.

Ambient (Outdoor) Air Quality
